Win 96 and 97 trouble
When I attempt to open both programs, I get an error "Failed to execute target process, Error code 5". Does anyone have any ideas of what this means and how to fix it.
I have unistalled and reinstalled the software this morning. Still the same error.

What version of both are you running. You may need as follows:
Win97
Version 1.22 2009.07.27 15:15 (GMT -0700)
* Modified RadioReference.com imports to use the SOAP interface.
Win96
Version 1.61 2009.07.27 15:18 (GMT -0700)
* Modified RadioReference.com imports to use the SOAP interface.
Both of these versions added a dll file which wasn't needed prior to August 1, 2009.

I am running both versions that were released around 9/15/2009.

NOTE: As of 17:28 PDT 31 July 2009, the new "RRLib.dll" file has changed to fix a problem with trunking system imports. I did not increase the main program's version number. You can either download the new version of the DLL via this link, extracting the DLL from the ZIP file into the directory on your machine where that file currently resides, or you can re-download the entire program via the link above.

Could this error be linked to Win32.

After alot of research, Win32 is not the problem.
This is the error I am getting when I attempt to load these programs. If Mr. Starr is monitering, please help.

Open folder Win96 or Win97 then check for RRLib.dll and WinxxCommon.dll. Both dll files must be in both folders.
I don't get error 5 with either file removed, but I do get error 126 when either file is removed.

This post describes another way of fixing this problem in a 32-bit Vista machine.
Quote:
The culprit on my 32 bit Vista machine was Data Execution Prevention, which is set to OptOut by default. Once I added Win500 to the OptOut list, Win500 1.88 came up immediately and ran fine (including interfacing with the RR web service).
To opt a program out of Data Execution Prevention, go to Control Panel->System->Advanced System Settings. Click the Settings button under Performance, then click on the Data Execution Prevention tab.
You have a choice of turning on DEP only for essential Windows programs and services or turning on DEP for all programs except those you select (this was the default setting on my system). Once I added Win500 to the exception list, the crashes went away.
