Win500 (especially recent versions) wants certain things that are built into Windows, or supplied by Microsoft as supplemental features. A prime example is Microsoft's .NET framework.

If your WINE framework doesn't include/support .NET, Win500 won't work.

(This is also presuming that you're running on an Intel or compatible CPU - Win500 most definitely will not run on anything else).

Try running Win4Lin on Unbuntu, then install an XP virtual machine, it works great! Another one that's free is VirtualBox.

I run mine on my Linux box in an XP session under VMWare server, works great, and it's free, and well supported.
