Where are the protocols documented?
I like to tinker with software and I was looking for the comm protocols in general and those of the PRO-160 and PRO-96 specifically. I can't seem to find them documented anywhere. Is there some reason for that? I already looked at some of the raw data using some free software to "tap" the comm port while ARC-160 talked to the scanner. I suppose I could reverse engineer most of it, but I'd rather not. Anyone know of any documentation out there for the comm protocols?

The PRO-96 protocol is a proprietary document requiring a Non-Disclosure agreement with Radio Shack/GRE.
I don't know about the PRO-160 protocol.

Also, the PRO-96 doesn't have much in the way of protocol. All it will do is transfer complete memory images. So, your application must build a complete image of the PRO-96's memory and transfer it en masse.
Uniden publishes the protocol for all scanners for anyone to use.

Can you point me in that direction? I've been on the Uniden site and have not seen such info. As a matter of fact, I have sent a couple of emails to Uniden (over a month ago) and received no replies. Thanks!

For the Pro96, I have some code in VB6 here:
Radio Shack Pro-96 Developement
There are two files that describe the Comm Protocol and the Memory Map...

Cool, thanks for the help. I'd like to capture the control channel information while still scanning. I record the local pd and I'd like to be able to associate the talkgroup with the recorded audio. Just watchin' the watchers.

Can you point me to the BC780XLT protocol? That doesn't seem to be on the site. Thanks in advance.

Can't do that with the Pro96.

That one predates me by several years, so I don't have it. However, a quick Google led me to Remote Scanner Control Protocol

Thank you; I had known about that one but never knew if an official Uniden document was available.
Much appreciated!
