Default ARC500 Error when Logging into RR

New to process of using ARC500 to tap the RR library .. getting the following message

INIT not ok can\'t read user data

Reponse from Butel was that I need to make sure ports 80 and 8080 are open ... I have tried disabling my Norton as well as the Windows Firewall (Windows XP) and still receiving the message.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated - thanks/Mark

You should not have to mess with your ports, Norton, or your Windows firewall. If Norton or your firewall have an issue with Butel, they should alert you, and ask you if you want to allow the connection. Usually it's automatic.

Are you using the most recent version of ARC500?

RESOLVED - moved to another computer that uses a different ISP and that resolved the problem

Hughes satellite internet appears to have been the culprit ...

Thanks for the comments/review ... Mark

I am also a Hughes satellite ISP user. I have the latest versions of ARC396 and ARC-XT. Both return "INIT not okay, can't read user data".

FWIW, this used to work through Hughes, but I haven't used RR for about six months. Now, no luck whatsoever.

Hughes give me their patent answer for all problems, "Dear sir. You have a virus. Remove the virus first." Yeah, right.

Has anyone been able to get into RR with Butel software recently, through Hughes? Right now, the service is useless!

Thanks,

KI7XH (Darrin)

Sorry I didn't do this before posting the first time. I pulled my desktop off my LAN, and dialed into my old ISP with the modem. Surely enough, ARC396 and RR work well when NOT going through HughesNet. Too bad I'm rural in WY and dial-up is 9600 if you're lucky!
