Default Fire Tone Decoding Help

Hi - is there anyone who has Comtekk's Fire Tone Decoder software or a comparable package that could decode a tone for me ? I have been able to decode every other tone with by BCT15X's Tone Search feature, but for whatever reason this one is giving me fits. I have tried running it through an audio analyzer also and no luck.

I hate to spend the $50 just to get this one tone and then never need it again

Attached is the MP3 file zipped - the wav file is too large for the forum to allow - I could email that to someone directly if needed.

I am pretty sure Tone B is 977hz, but Tone A is the one giving me fits

Thanks

Jim

The tone sounds like they used in the show Emergency. I can try to figure it out.

Give this a try

Tone A 426.6 (EZ) Tone B 977.2 (NZ)

I used a stero cable that has 1 male on each end. Also used a freq counter and audacity

Default DTMF Tone

You will need a DTMF decoder, like this:

DTMF Decoder / Encoder

It's not one tone. It is two tones broadcast simultaneously, like a phone dial.

I agree on the two tones broadcast simultaneously. I see the DTMF Decoder is a trail though.

Hi all - thanks for the quick replies. The application here is I am trying to identify these tone settings to enter into a BCT15X scanner for the tone out feature, as well as program into a Minitor V pager (which is the primary need)

A couple questions based on your responses:

- I am trying the 426.6 / 977.2 pairing. I will let you know if it works. I had previously identified it as 421 / 977 and I believe the Minitor's tolerance is only about +/- 5 hz so maybe this revised value will do it. What do the EZ and NZ designations you listed mean ?

- The 2 tones simultaneuos is a good thought as when I try to analyze Tone A, the needle jumps all over as if it is conflicted. I was able to download the DTMF decoder you listed. I ran it, but how do you translate those values (single digit numbers and letters) into a Hz value needed for the pager settings ? I am a bit unfamiliar with this concept

Jim

UPDATE - literally 30 seconds after I sent the last post - a page came over and 426.6 / 977.2 worked !!!! Thanks all - I should have asked for help a week ago instead of beating my head against a wall this long, but I learned a lot about sound audio in the process. I think I am good (fingers crossed)

I think the EZ & NZ is the code for the each tone. Every tone has a code. I am not sure some radio's software if you have to put the code in or the tone it self.

Got it. My application only required the tone frequency itself to be entered and your findings on that worked perfectly - so I am all set now - thanks again for taking the time to decode it for me !
