Default ARC996 Tone L/Out feature?

In the conventional system editor screen there's a column for Tone L/Out. How do you use this?

I'm not talking about the L/Out setting which keeps a channel from being scanned in the first place, nor am I talking about the CTCSS/DCS column where you can set it to search or to only stop for a specific tone.

I didn't see anything on this in the help file.

Thanks,

Ed
