Default BC780XLT Programming Cable

Good Evening,
I just purchased and recieved my BC780XLT, and while it did come with the book, and DC power, it did not come with the programming cable.
So my question is, it Uniden the only place that has the programming cable I need? Will any of the programming cables from RadioShack work?

Thanks!

If you're lucky enough to have a RS232 port on your PC, then a cable from just about any reputable supplier will work - doesn't the 780 have a DB9 on the back?

If you need a USB cable, I know Scan Control sells them, and I have no doubt others, too.

Pretty simple....73s Mike

I bought my DB9 Serial to USB data cable from Wal-Mart for $24.99. The only problem with it is the rather short length. I am looking for one now that is long enough to go from the 4-port hub in my truck down through the floor and up to the scanner. I want to leave it permanently connected. I am using the 785D, but it is the same setup.

Well I bought the DB9 to USB serial adapter, and it connects and shows connected, but the e-scanner software from uniden does not detect the scanner...is it just the software?

Yea probably your COM PORT go to start menu , control panel , system , hardware , com port and see what it set it up for (what number com port) . Then check it in e-scanner config to make sure they match! And also make sure they are both set for the same BAUD RATE!

They make male/female extender cables for both USB, and RS233 (DB9) serial cables. You can go much longer with serial than you can with USB.
