Default Scan Control Demo

I'm giving Scan Control a trial run as a means to replace Radio Commander. Thus far I'm very impressed. However, I am having one problem that I'd like to figure out before I buy the software.

My local trunked system is EDACS. When I work with the Scan Control demo I can't seem to put in AFS id's if they have a leading 0 (example 04-043). If it has a full numeric value, it seems to take the id just fine (example 12-043). However, decimal seems to work fine. I'm used to seeing the AFS and prefer it that way.

My question is anyone else having the same issue with Scan Control. Is this just an issue limited to the demo or does this happen on the full version as well?

Thanks.

Whoops, should have thrown in that I'm using a 2052 with the software.

gkovar, there's a dedicated Yahoo group for Scan Control. Ken D. is both the author and moderator. That sounds like a bug - or perhaps just user error; since there are virtually no EDACS systems in my area, I can't test this. But I don't think this is a demo vs.full version thing - but the best advice is to get onto the group and ask.

Can you put in '4-043' instead of '04-483' as a workaround? 73s Mike

Mike, haven't tried dropping the leading zero. Will give that a shot.
Thanks for the heads up on the Yahoo Group.

And here's the URL for that very group...

I'm also trying Scancontrol demo with 2052 and so far like it better than Radio Commander ( doesn't seem to work well). Also tried ScanPro, like its simplicity and logging, but it doesn't fit my 800x600 res screen, otherwise could be good. Also trying Scancat demo, might be nice, a little complex, found (accidently) workaround for 1 hour restriction. Still want more input from others before spending 60 or 100$+. So far Scan control for 60 has my interest, and it can be used with other radios. Scancat too can be used with many radios, but not sure if its best for me @ 100+. Anyone else want to chip in here?

Well according to:

http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Pro-2052

there are a couple more - there's the very expensive Spectrum Commander and the not so expensive Trunkstar XLT. Unfortunately I haven't heard much about either packages.

By the way SC is only USD50 if you download the software, rather than buying it on CD. In addition, next month's release includes audio recording capability, something you have to pay extra for with Scancat.

Perhaps the only nice thing about the Scan Pro software is the 10000 record scan ability. That might be nice for milair. When I did the Scan Pro 895 review, the software acted like it was only half finished, and some things were really flaky. Perhaps the 2052 version is a bit better, although I understand it doesn't work for every 2052 owner (perhaps a firmware issue there).

gkovar,

I don't recall regarding demo, but the licensed version will program AFS ED and Type 1 Mot.

gkovar,

Sorry I can't help with your specific question, have not heard any Edacs where I'm at, nor have any experience with Edacs systems. But since you mentioned trying Scancontrol to replace Radio Commander, this caught my attention. I too am looking for decent program to control 2052 and some future Uniden. Hope I'm not going too far off topic here, Mod let me know.

My 2052's date code is 03A06, bought new recently on sale $99. How do I get firmware ver#, anyone? Is firmware updatable on RS scanners? Found some key sequence on power up for my 2053 I think, but don't remember it. Caveat!: (probably already known by most here, but just in case) backup your memory before playing with powerup key sequences as you could erase entire memory!

Proscan2052: Setting comm rate slider to low end greatly helps reduce "error reading" and errant/missing channel #s. Mimics radio display almost instantly (as does Scancontrol), some other programs very poor at this. I use 10000 file as master list. Banks can be transferred back to main screen, then load to radio. Don't think scanning 10k chs would be very productive. Too bad right side (keys 3,6,9,E and a couple tabs are not available @ 800x600, my only choice right now (unless/until I can get "extended diplay mode" up, allegedly in this laptop). Does have logging in search mode. Does have some "quirks". Use Wordpad only to edit .txt files. For 15 bucks, still fun to play with. At this point I wouldn't spend 15 for Radio Commander. Demo will probably be round filed.

re: "By the way SC is only USD50 if you download the software, rather than buying it on CD.In addition, next month's release includes audio recording capability,..." --Do you know if they will take USPS MO for Download? Guess I'll have to ask them. Thanks for the reminder, certainly would wait for new release.

re:" ...something you have to pay extra for with Scancat." -- IMHO, Another negative for Scancat. Not saying its a bad product, I just don't have the dough.

Trunkstar XLT: just checked web page, I don't meet sys requirements for this one, OS, RAM, screen res, didn't even look for price.
