Default Not sure who to ask, you or Butel.

OK when I download TGs/systems from here using ButelARC396, all I get is a mess. What I am trying to do is make a seperate Macomb county MPSCS system for my 396. When I download it, the TG # are good BUT the groups they are organised into are all named Macomb County (5.

Normally is would not be that big of a hassle but sometimes the TG labels do not tell me who it belongs to, so I have to manually dig through the DB. Since the 396 can oly handle 16 characters for group names, everything else is cut off.

Like I said, I don't know who to ask. Solving it would be easy, keeping the group names in the DB to 16 characters would work. If you need a better idea of what I'm talking about, I did take a screen cap.

Thanks for your time,

J

PS AAK it's worse than I thought. The names that show up on the scanner are all named 70P911, 50PD849, etc., etc. So I guess add along with the above that the names of the talkgroups are no help either. I am sure it makes sense for the people on the system, but not me!

Let me preface my comments with I don't use ARC396. That said, I am not sure if ARC396 will allow you to build groups as you download or edit Alpha Tags before download. The site (RR) provides information through the Web Service broken down similarly as you see them on a page (but sorted a little different). It is up to the software vendor to allow those edits before you download so that you can have sensible tags and groups.

In the future, there will be a separate field in the RR Database to address this situation and I think (although I may be wrong on the amount of characters) it will be limited to 12 characters so that it will fit most scanners.

The software uses the first 16 characters to create the groups since the scanner can only store 16 characters, in your case all the groups you selected start with 'Macomb County (50)' in the database so all these groups have the same name after import
To edit do a right mouse click in the system browser then click Edit groups and then you can modify the names.

Thanks for the reply! I did know how to fix it, I was mostly just wanting to point it out. All this great new technology has me spoiled, I should try to remember when I had to memorize the TGIDs on my pro 94.

In this case, I don't know why all the groups are labeled Macomb County 50. The way I thought it should be is MPSCS>Macomb System>Bruce, Armada, etc then the TGIDs under that.

Anyways, thanks again and keep up the great work!

Jason

PS DUH on me for completely forgetting about the software section , DOH!

Default Phew!

Ok if anyone wants a good clean Macomb file for ARC 396, post me a PM and I'll send one. All known Tgs are labeled along with the groups thew belong to.

J

AGAIN I'm probably in the wrong group. Ill repost in the local so I don't bother the mods.

You need to play around with the columns - it'll weed out the worthless stuff (to a Uniden user).

Delete columns 3 or 4, maybe 5, depending on what it looks like.

something else you may want to note with the naming of TGs, systems, groups or freqs. if you have the version that does recording, you will want to find ALL characters that Windows cannot use to name files and folders like ? or /. if you don't change them, the software will NOT record the audio for anything that has those in the name within the software.
