You will need to obtain a driver for Vista from Uniden.

If you can't locate a Vista driver you can use a WinXP driver as long as your on 32-bit Vista. I had to do this for 3 different USB-to-Serial adapters I have.

Question Vista Driver from uniden???

I looked on the uniden site for a Vista driver for the USB-1 cable and there didnt seem to be one. I tried to use the XP version but windows cannot locate the driver software when I know that its there.

I had a problem with Vista recognizing my digital camera on the front panel USB ports. I plugged the USB cable into the rear ports directly on the motherboard and it works like a champ. Who knows why????? Maybe give that a try.

Rather than look to Uniden, I would try the actual manufacturer. The name escapes me at the moment, but anyone running the driver under XP should be able to look it up in Device Manager.

look in the control panel/system/device manager

look down the list for Ports (COM&LPT)

you will see an entry called Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (Com?)

the question mark will be the com port to use in the scanner software
