Default ? about this trunking software

new here. been lookin around, and see some programs in the download section. some require the discriminator output. biggest question from me is... what are these programs for? do they allow you to monitor your scanner from your desktop? just wondered what neat little thing they might be. thx

In some cases, yes, some of those downloads are demos of control programs; others are programming-only. It depends entirely on the make/model of the scanner to see what can be done with it. With the exception of the 2052, RS/GRE scanners cannot be computer-controlled; the Unidens can.

The ones that require a discriminator tap (such as UniTrunker) allow you to see and monitor trunk systems to a much finer detail - you get to see things you would not see with a trunking control program, such as ARC396

You would use a serial cable to connect the scanner to your PC and then you would decode the information FROM your scanner to the PC software (i.e. Unitrunker).
You would see the information on your PC.
