Does anyone have an estimate of when any of this software will be available?
Another question is, will Don Starr's Win500 have computer control features or will it just be for programing.

PSREdit should be available tomorrow. I'm adding the last feature that I want to have in it for the initial release.
It will only be for programming, at least for now.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike. I'll give PSREdit a try. From the screen shots it looks like it will be fairly easy to use which is something I like about the "Win" family of programs (I like the simplicity of Win96 and Win97.)

Mike, I assume it'll be available as a download? My '500 should arrive Monday, and I'll be ready for the software!

In the initial release, no... I plan to include it in a later release. It will read the configuration from a Pro-96/2096 and convert that to the PSR-500 format.

"30 days" starts when?
When does the 30-day evaluation "clock" start? As of download, installation, or first use of the program? I ask this for the benefit of those who are getting the radio but don't yet have it in hand. Thanks

Real quick eval of PSREdit.
Intuitive - I figured out most of the operation out.
Look and Feel - Good
Comments (good and bad).
1. It downloaded what I had loaded in the 500 to the software. When I shut down with no changes, the scanner memory had been reset.
2. I don't see how to add additional talk groups (TSYS) (Found it, it is a right click).
3. My VHF/UHF motorola system was imported as an 800/900 (easy change in the software).
4. The custom table came across and was filled in properly (even with the low and high channels).
5. The download and covert the 96 was a godsend. I used it to get all but one system I'd loaded in the 500 back. Just need to tweak the settings (LED and such).
6. The basic functions are very intuitive and should cause no problems. I need to read the manual on some of the more advanced settings in the "weather/configuration"
Initial feeling, is I like it. I'll do more with it tomorrow after work.

I agree - two features I'd like to see added (these fall into the 'would be nice to have' category):
- the ability to change L/O without needing to openthe entire record
- consider an option that loads all of the alpha tags "centered"
Other than that --- excellent work!!!! My fingers (and eyeballs) thank you!!!

it reset the memory on a download? Are you sure you didn't start an upload and cancel it mid stream? That will do that to the radio.

All of those windows have right click menus. With the number of options that would be needed, especially in the TSYS screen, buttons would clutter the interface considerably.

Yeah, the import isn't perfect unfortunately. The program looks for clues on what type of system it's working with. Is there perhaps an 800Mhz frequency in that bank on the Pro-96?

I'll be doing some documentation on the operation of the program eventually. Hopefully people won't have too difficult of a time with the program before then.

Comments (good and bad).
1. It downloaded what I had loaded in the 500 to the software. When I shut down with no changes, the scanner memory had been reset. I was asked if Iwanted to save changes (I thought this was to the application when I imported the scanner memory and I clicked 'no').
2. I don't see how to add additional talk groups (TSYS) (Found it, it is a right click, used quiet a bit).
3. My VHF/UHF motorola system was imported as an 800/900 (easy change in the software, and it was mixed with some conventional frequencies in the 96).
7. Not sure, I may be wrong here, but I thought I could set the LED for a TGRP as well as each TSYS. I don't see this in the software. I need to double check.
Initial feeling, is I like it. I'll do more with it tomorrow after work.

You can set the LED color on a TGRP object, but not a TSYS object. The TSYS object is not a "scanable object"
