The serial cable does not require drivers, it is a serial cable. A USB cable requires drivers so that it can be a serial cable. All USB devices require drivers, no serial cable requires them.

I am guessing you mean ScanCatLite Plus, not ScanSoft (which is optical scanner software); I will not discuss what your software pitfalls are, they are well documented (especially in regard to a Pro-96/2096). However, most times when any software has trouble communicating with a scanner it is because the COM port has been captured by some other piece of software even though you may not think you are running it; big problems are usually software linked to PDA's (Palm's, etc.). Make sure that your COM port has not been captured by some other resident piece of software and try again.

Do yourself a favor and buy Win96 for your Pro-96 programming.

The radio has to be on to either upload or download, but in no programming software package that I am aware of does the radio have to be on (or connected) to program on the computer. Remember, Win96 may well run into the same problem with the Port as ScanCatLite; I mean the one thing that SCL can do is communicate with the radio, I just don't think it sends or reads the right stuff when dealing with a Pro-96.

V-Folders on the Pro-96 are no different than any other programming on the radio, the radio is just able to store those 10 (11 really) extra "set-ups" so you can access them and swap out the main memory from the keypad.

Just make sure that both each frequency assigned to the trunk system is appropriately marked (MO or ED) and that the bank itself is in the correct mode (MOT or ED). Either one not set will result in the situation you are describing.

Post the ".p96" file that has the set-up here; zip it or add ".txt" to the end so you can upload it. Tell us what bank the system is in and maybe we can figure it out for you.
