Uniden BC898T SS not workung

I have a new Uniden BC898T and paid for the BC898T SS software. I does NOT work. I have contacted Uniden support to no avail. The last thing I was told is that since I use Windows Vista that may be the problem. I have verified my Port 3 & 9600 speed. Has anyone had this problem and found a resolution?

I am sure you are doing this right but just to be sure, you do have REMOTE turned on correct? and the proper speed set on the radio also? are you using a serial cable on both ends or is one end have a usb adapter to go into the pc?

It wouldn't surprise me at all that Vista is the issue. I've seen some reports - and I'm not sure this is exactly the issue, but it's a common enough problem - that you need to install the software with admin rights, not as a user. Install as a user and some software simply won't work.

Besides, I'm willing to be ARC898 and Scan Control work much better than the SS software any day.....73s Mike

And after I installed it I tried to read from the scanner. Scanner not foung message came up. The scanner wis on, went to remote and verified COM3 & 9600 BPS, then tried again - same thing. Then tried auto detect - Same thing. I have no idea. Maye the demo version should be upgraded to the full version?

Did you confirm the Com Port number in the Windows Device Manager.

Yes, I did. COM 3 @ 9600 BPS

It turned out that I had to replace a serial cable and now all is working. Thanks to all who offered suggestions. Bob
