Default What can GNU-Radio "do"?

I've been looking at SDR based systems recently. While still somewhat immature, they seem like the future. GNU radio has gotten a LOT of press and development and I've looked at the Wiki for the system, but it just... doesn't say what it can currently do.

I don't have the equipment to use it, but all I know is that it can demodulate a lot of signals and there's been a lot of talk. I see development threads talking about everything from Inmarsat to Opensky to GSM to GPS to wifi.

But... no real indication of where these features are.

Okay so somebody said they were looking into inmarsat reception in 2005. What happened with that? Did it go anywhere?

What's the status of HDTV reception? I know last year they had an alpha for a real-time HDTV decoder... is that... out of alpha yet?

Is it so much to ask for a current maintained list of what modes, modulations and codecs it currently CAN do, which are actively being developed and which are just on the drawing board or roadmap?

I mean really, it doesn't say much about what the capabilities which have already been implimented. just bits and pieces..

It's like a swiss army knife or erector set. Most of the pieces are there to do just about anything you want. You can write your own processing blocks to fill in the gaps - very steep learning curve.

Hmm... So we're not really talking something like The Gimp or Gaim/Pidgin or some other piece of open-source software that is basically build-and-run with the features and capabilities built in, it sounds... that's a shame. I doubt I have the time to get involved with something that has to be configured that heavily for each and every application
