Arc996-pro

Hey guys I have the ARC996PRO Version and have been able to figure out the logging and the recording. I found out the recording worked better out of the EXT SPKR jack in my scanner that the REC Jack. Both plugged directly into my MIC Jack on my laptop. My question is this... Can I also record without using the F12 - Virtual Control of the software with this scanner. If so, How? Thanks
