And just a recomedation become a Premium Subscriber here so you can directly import from the RR database. Even if you only use it temorarly it will be the best $7.50 spent over 90 days. Me, I never let mine run out, if for nothing else to help Lindsay with the costs of this great site.

I've sent numerous emails and PM's to Don regarding Win96, which continue to go unanswered. Apparently existing users are no longer supported, which is quite disappointing.

He is quite busy working with Win500 (for the 500 & 600) and working on Win97 (to support the 300 & 400).

Don was on here yesterday. In the forum for software for the PSR 500/600. And answered several peoples questions I also PMd him and he got it. You may check that thread and leave a message there. You may even find an answer to your question there. Haven't seen him on today yet. Dont get dissappointed yet as Stick stated he is very busy with trying to keep up. Don Will always support his product that Im sure of............Good Scannin.....Hoser

I know he's been around, I keep checking. I'm sure he's checked this thread as well. The fact that he's received your PM's and chosen to ignore mine frustrates me to no end. I understand he's got a new product to support, but that simply doesn't mean that you choose to ignore previous customers who've already given you money. I suppose I should have seen the writing on the wall with the previous support issues for registered users who needed replacement keys.
It doesn't matter at this point. I'm done using the product, and done recommending his products to my customers as well. I refuse to put them through similar issues in the future. Five strikes and you're out.

I would really hate to guess how many times Don and other software providers are ask about lost or forgotten keys, Most tell ya right off the bat to make copies and keep them in a safe place. When I sent him a Pm (as singular) he answered it in the open forum. It was in reference to why the key was so long, and as he stated it was to help others as he has had alot of Pms regarding keys. All the software writers as far as I know are working their tails off right now with debuging new versions and updates and tryin to keep all their customers happy. Just take a look around at the various threads and be patient. Good Scannin Hoser

I can appreciate your response, and I understand the sentiment entirely. Don has a great product, and it's in high demand for us hobbyists. He's got a lot on his plate.
My problem entirely is the utter lack of ANY communication, good or bad. The simple fact that he has read and responded to your PM, but chosen to ignore mine, means that he simply doesn't value my business as a customer.
From my last PM to him...

Don,
Is there anything you can do about my prior requests for a copy of my original Win96 registration key, or am I out of luck? Please let me know either way. I need a solution and can't continue waiting.
Thanks

This was after entirely explaining my situation, a lost key, in a previous PM and several emails. To note, while I wouldn't necessarily have been happy, a simple response that I would have to be patient would have sufficed. My bad. Fine. It would have at least been an answer. Ignoring me entirely as a customer pretty explicitly means that he doesn't value my business or the business of my customers.
I've read the other threads. I understand that patience is a virtue when dealing with lost keys. It was an issue before, which is why he issued the temporary 180 key. The site now specifically states that you must make several copies of the key and keep them in a safe place. Great.
If Don would communicate better with those who have had problems, he'd keep some people happy and money flowing in his direction. When you quit talking, people start walking.

With all due respect, the problem appears to be your lack of response to my email invitation sent 4 years ago, in which I offered to replace pre-1.29 hardware-dependent keys (issued Sep 2003 - Feb 2004) with 1.29-and-later hardware-independent versions. That email was sent to all registered users of Win96 as of 29 Feb 2004 - those who had the "old form, hardware-dependent" key.
Your recent emails to me seem to indicate that you're running a version of Win96 prior to 1.29, since you mention a "registration number". That suggests you downloaded (and perhaps registered) Win96 prior to 01 Mar 2004. Unfortunately, I'm no longer in a position to a) verify a ~4-year-old registration or b) "upgrade" an ancient hardware-dependent key to the post-Feb 2004 format.
Had you responded to that email of 01 Mar 2004, like nearly all other registered users did, you would've received a key that would work "forever" on any post-1.28 version of Win96, on any PC (presuming, of course, you had saved that key).
While unfortunate, the current situation wasn't caused by me ignoring you now; it seems to have been caused by your lack of response to my 01 Mar 2004 "to all registered users" email.

Thanks for the reply, Don. This pretty well lays the problem to rest, as well as any future issues. Yes, I did in fact download (and hey, even register!) prior to March 1 2004. I'll assume that I received said email, and never responded to it. I've never had issues with email getting bounced, so I'll own up to that, and also suggest that I would have received any recent replies from you if that were the case.
My bad. I just would have expected better customer care from someone who has a decent reputation in the hobby. I'm not big on snarky responses either, even if they are factual. Way to mitigate the damage there.
