Several different cables should work:
- GRE's USB Scanner Data Cable. This is also the cable that is shipped with the PSR-500.
- RadioShack's 20-047 USB Scanner Programming Cable (identical to the above GRE cable except for color)
- RadioShack's 20-289 serial cable. Requires a serial port. Also, some users have had trouble with this cable (it's somewhat sensitive to differences between radios and serial port hardware). This cable seems to work "best" with a USB-Serial adapter - perhaps because such an adapter is able to "drive" the cable harder than the serial port on a PC motherboard.
Additionally, some people are able to get cables from other scanners to work with the GRE-made PRO-9x radios (like the PRO-96). Some that I've heard of are the cables for the Yaesu VR-500 and the Icom IC-2800.
EDIT: whatever you do, don't buy RadioShack's 20-049 cable. It does NOT work with the PRO-96 (or the 92, 93, 95, 97).
