rwier, there is no donation page anymore, rather, it is built into the program.

Mods, can you please kill this thread? It's ancient and every time I think I've seen the last of it, it gets resurrected again.

Since the new version of Sentinel lets you edit the DB, it's not really needed anymore.

Thanks, I appreciate the support. Never know when you might use it in your travels as well...

Will there be anymore updates to freescan? I would be nice to be able to cut and past batches of groups and sites.

Question. I want to copy and paste or actually build a file from various other files. Sort of a bit from here or a bit from there... and make a new file out of it.

I have tried to open up two instances of FreeScan and copy / paste between them but that's not possible. Also tried doing it in a text editor, no joy.

Any easy (or even hard way) to do this? I have a bunch of different files with different systems on them and would like to build composite setups I can use for different situations.

Thank you all in advance!

That's relatively easy.

Just open the file you want to add to, or open FreeSCAN with no file opened, to start building from the ground up.

Now, Select File->Import->From FreeScan

That will take you to a pop-up menu, where you can browse to the file you want to pull systems from. Select the ones you want, then import only those.

Then, browse to the next file you want to use part of, pick whichever systems, conventional or trunked, and import those.

Repeat as needed.

I'd probably start with an existing file, even if that meant deleting some or most of it's systems, before I began the import process. That way, I'd preserve my base settings (opening 'splash' screen for when the scanner starts, WX SAME codes, color defaults, etc). But no reason you'd have to do it that way.

OMG that is priceless!! Never thought of even remotely trying that. I tried importing from other formats but not from other FreeSCAN files LOL. Doh!

Anyway, THANKS A MILLION!!! I was actually considering doing a PERL program to just massage the files manually in UNIX :P

Cheers!

Smile Problem with FreeScan

This is a long time problem with FreeScan.
I love the program but everytime the Uniden Scanners are programed from scratch you have to manually set the rebanding under Custom Settings.

I am refering to the Custom rebanding settings.

Custom 1
851.025 low
854.000 high
440 offset
25 split

Custom 2
851.0125 low
868.9875 high
0 offset
25 split

If would be helpful if this could be read and written by the software instead of having to do it manually.

Thanks for a wonderful piece of software besides this.

I put this suggestion out several months ago with no action, although Assaf did say he would look into it. I agree that if you need to put in rebanding manually it's kinda a pain in the rump, even though it's relatively easy. The download from the database works fine - it sets the table if the rebanding flag in the database is set.

Hmm, maybe I am not understanding this correctly. If I am, it isn't happening to me I think... I have the NYC DoITT 400MHz system which is re-banded, I upload and re-upload constantly and have never had to re-input anything... Am I missing your point? Where should I be looking?

Rebanding doesn't affect 400 Mhz systems - only 800 Mhz. I believe you mean narrowbanding and that's something very different.

We have articles in our wiki on both topics...

Rebanding - the RR Wiki

Narrowbanding - the RR Wiki

That's why I said I was confused

So this isn't the same?

New York City DoITT (UHF) Trunking System, New York, New York - Scanner Frequencies

Anyway, where can I find what the OP was referring to (Custom 1, Custom 2) I thought it was the reand tabe under a site config for a Mot/II Reband type site...

No they are not the same. Read the articles. I suspect you're mixing up the fact that your system is a mixed mode system (digital talkgroups with an analog system) on UHF (which is not impacted by rebanding) with one that is on 800 (which is) . Digital systems can exist on any of the standard public safety bands.

Here's an example of a system that has rebanded

Howard County Trunking System, Ellicott City, Maryland - Scanner Frequencies

Mike why are you insisting that I have no idea about the difference?

I am not interested in the reband vs UHF vs 800MHz lol. I am interested in the problem that is being asked about.. .the fact that FreeSCAN does not re-do the rebanding automatically...

So, could you tell me exactly what the issue is with FreeSCAN? I want to see it and reproduce it. thanks... I am fully aware of the difference between REBANDING and NARROWBANDING ... I am not that stupid, very stupid, but not that bad hahaha.

Cheers!

It will redo the custom tables and set up rebanding when the flag is set in the database. The example I gave you shows this clearly - there's a message that sets up the alert. FreeScan - and most of the other packages, too - will set this when you download it automagically. Try it for yourself, using the Howard county link I gave in a prevous message.

However, doing this manually, you have to set it up yourself. I've put in a request to change this, but it hasn't happened as yet

Your DOITT system is not involved in rebanding because it's on UHF.
