Exclamation Problems with Don Star win 95 program

I am having problems up loading and down loading any freqs from the Win 95 free program. I have a Pro 95 and keep getting error windows, such as "RECIEVED DATA CONTAINED ERRORS". I have a Dell XP PC and I had to buy a USB/SERIAL ADAPTER (IOGEAR GUC232A Version1) I installed the software driver twice and tried working it and if it is not one error window comming up it is an other. The other error window that comes up is "wrong com port", well I printed the support help section from the IOGEAR and now found the correct COM PORT 8 that will let me send the freqs to the Win 95 program, but after it finishes "SENDING DATA" I still keep getting the same ERROR WINDOW reading each time "RECIEVED DATA CONTAINED ERRORS". I have tried every thing that I can think of to make this work. I am so fustrated now I do not know what to do. You all know that putting in freqs one by one is a big, big pain. I had a Windows 98 PC before and it worked great, now with this DELL XP Home Edition, I am stuck. I would appreciate any one out there in this fourm to give me some tips. Thanks Ed. e-mail me at ETR1STCAV@AOL.COM. THANKS AGAIN....

This is not a problem with the software - software doesn't break. Regarding using the USB cable, there are DOZENS of threads here at RR which explain how you determine the correct COM port so you can tell WIN95. Keep in mind the USB cable is actually a "com port converter", which is why you need the driver for the cable installed. Is the correct driver installed? Lastly there are several options in WIN95 you can try which affect data communication. And I must wonder how you know for sure that the scanner you are trying to program/read does not have a problem?

to me that indicates a conflict between the computer and the cable, not a problem with PRO95.

In Win95, click under Serial Port in Configuration Menu and experment with the check boxes for Extra Write Time and Set RTS Line HIGH.

Also, some of the USB to Serial conversion cables may not work no matter what you do. However, get Radio Shack Cable 20-047 which will work.

The physical baud rate between the scanner and the computer can not be slowed down; it must be a set rate as designed in the scanner firmware. The best you can do is slow down the character pacing on the computer side by selecting "extra write time" in WIN95.
