Default Can this be done with ARC396? Example inside

I visit ST Louis MO about once every 2 weeks for a day. Of course I like to take the scanner and listen in when I have time.

The way I have things set up now in banks is not the best way I don't think.

I have banks 5, 6,7,9 and 15 for ST Louis freq. Is it possible to have just one bank called StLouis and then underneath it have the sub-groups that can be activated or turned off?

In other words I want:

Bank 5- StLouis --> City PD TRS
--> County Sheriff
--> 911 Disp Ctrs
--> Metrolink
--> STL Airport

I don't know what I would even want to put anything in that parent group at all, just the ability to 'nest' the listed groups below it ...

possible?

Since the 396T doesn't have "banks" at all your question is somewhat confusing. If one substitutes "system" for the word bank in your question it still makes little sense. Each system has groups, to program a TG (TRS') or an individual frequency (conventional) they must be entered in a group. How you arrange those groups and the items in them are the key to what you want to do.

What I'm referring to as banks (old school thinking), is at the bottom of the screen where you select what you want to scan under the S0 and S1 .

The line that contains the "S0 and S1" that you mention is the System Quick Key (SQK) number, I think that you realize that. The line under that line deals with the Group Quick Key (GQK) number. As I said in my last post, how you arrange your Groups and the items in them (plus of course what GQK they are assigned to) are what you are apparently asking in your original post.

yea that's what I meant, the terms weren't coming to me for whatever reason..

What I am wanting to do it have a STL system, and then have the TRS city pd, county sheriff, fire/ems underneath that.

Problem is for me that some are conventional, not even trunked and arc seems to give me some fits with that.

"Nested" programming is not that hard with the 3/9-96, but as Lou said, you need to get a grip on the big picture to do it. What it soulds like you want to do is create a System for St Louis, then create Groups for each of the services that you desire. If you are trying to monitor a TRS and conventional frequencies, you can still create one System for the TRS, and one System for the conventional stuff. You can then assign both of those Systems to the same System Quick Key to be turned on/off as you enter leave the St. Louis area. Off course DMA (direct memory access) programming is so flexible, that what one person likes may not be how another person programs their 3/9-96, so your mileage may vary.

A system in the BCD396 is either trunk or conventional, you can not put both trunk and conv freqs in the same system.
So you need at least 2 systems but when you assign the same system quickkey you can easily toggle them on/off while you travel

Well, 2 systems (trunk, conv, with nested groups) would be better than 6 systems as it stands now. I'll try that, thanks!
