Hey I was thinking of ordering one of these antennas and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with it. http://www.scannermaster.com/Scan_Force_Mobile_Antenna_p/25-541147.htm

I primarily listen to the 150.000 range to the 470.000 range on the highside. But, more so, I am interested in increasing my CHP range in the 42.000 range. I imagine this will give me a little more distance, but how much is what I am concerned about. I guess for 40 bucks, you get what you pay for. I also drive an SUV, so I dont want a 3 foot antenna on top of it. If anyone has any suggestions at all, please let me know.

<sigh> If you want good VHF lo performance, the longer the antenna the better. Shorter, and you have to resort to tricks like loading coils and such to make it work. The one above probably would hear some Lo band stuff, but not very efficiently. You can only bend the laws of antenna physics so far, hi. It's nice marketing, but not very scientific.

This site has a nice start for a basic review of several different mobile antennas...again, not real scientific, but you do get an idea of basic performance on several different bands. Not a bad place to start.
