quick question

I am getting ready to order the W-881 super gainer portable antenna for my pro 106

Well this antenna make a real noticiable differnece In range over the Stock antenna for the 106 ?

Obviously not as good as a discone, but would it be a noticible differnece over the stock?

No antenna will make a major difference in 'range', if it's in the same place (on your radio) as the old one.

A 'better' antenna can improve weak signals, but it will not help with stations that are not in line of sight and have NO signal.

The only real way to get better 'range' is to have your antenna higher up.

Range at VHF and above is 90% or more simply a factor of height of the receiving and transmitting antennas, and any terrain/trees/buildings in between them.

Actually, in large urban areas, a 'better' antenna (high up, good antenna) may work WORSE for some things, as it brings in too MUCH signal, and overloads/desensitizes your radio's front end. This can be one problem with discones, as they receive everything equally (though not particularly well), which means your radio is being smashed with full power FM broadcast stations, TV broadcasts, and your friendly local Cell tower.
