I've been testing my Maldol AL-500H against my Diamond RH-77 here lately. Surprisingly enough, the AL-500 receives better on anything in the 2m range than the RH-77. I've used different scanners in the same position with both antennas. From VHF Aircraft up through the Rail Frequencies, it's looking to me like the AL-500 has an advantage.

I havent had sufficient time to fully test UHF with these two, but thought it might be worth passing along to those who prefer handheld scanners.

I tried both antennas on three different radios on several different bands in addition to commercial aircraft and MilAir and could not detect any difference at all. I chose the Diamond because it was half the price and the Maldol was too thin and limp.

My thoughts exactly.....I really wanted the Maldol AL-500H to perform better on the VHF and UHF airbands over the Diamond RH77CA, but it doesn't. They seemed to be identical. I stuck with the Diamond for it's shorter length as well.......

That long length on the Maldol really gets to be a pain!
