Am hoping to mag mount either one of these to my subaru hatchback. Will be using either a bct-15 or a bcd796d (or possibly a handheld on occasion bc92xlt) Opinions please on these two:

The maxrad BMAXSCAN1000 vs The Larsen NMO150/450/800

Thanks!

A lot of this information is already posted on this web site in older postings.
All it took was a breif search - see below:

Well - both of them are NMO mount and I beleive that both Comet(NCG) and Diamond(RF Parts) both make hatchback lip type mounts for NMO, SO239 and N mounts. Its also likely that some other antenna manufactures make such mounts. I have no experience with these mounts for hatchbacks or these antennas but both are well liked by the scanner community based on past postings.

Decision made

After much debate, and re-reading the thread below, made my mind up.

>The Larsen works great for me, but I suggest you also look at this thread.
>Larsen Antenna &CheapHam

>Dave

Will post a review when I get it up and running. I tell you RR is the best source I've had in scanning for 10 plus years! Thanks to all and RR!

Ok initial review: After placing it on my roof (mind you I have a sun and moon roof) towards the back/center I ran it thru my door and hooked it up to my BCT-15. Great reception on vhf hi getting repeaters from all over the county, good reception on UHF. But 800 Mhz was a little spotty, but it is always here in the mountains and it was very cloudy and stormy yesterday. Also placement may need some tweaking. I must say the antenna looks great in black, very much shorter than I thought and blends in well with the car roof line/luggage rack. We will see if the mag mount hold up under fast speeds. Shipping was fast from Cheapham. Ordered it mon night after 5 and got it thurs morning priority USPS.

Thanks for the pictures - the antenna looks great.

Someone mentioned in another thread that proximity to the roof rack cross bars can affect reception.... might help in your case as well?
