I have a Radio Shack Pro 2096 scanner and thinking about putting up an outside antenna. My question is has there been significant advances made in scanner antennas in the last 20 years?
Why you ask? I have an old antenna that is in perfect shape that I have used years ago. I think it was a Radio Shack antenna. I am not sure what type it is, I think it a ground plane antenna, multiband? It has three vertical masts mesuring 70 inches, 48 inches, 16 inches, with three ground planes about 6 feet long. Would it be beneficial to buy a new antenna like a scantenna ST2 or discone or just use the antenna that I have?
Thanks in advance for any help.

That was a great antenna. I used one years ago, and it performed well.
Can't really answer your question without more info.

What frequencies are you wanting to monitor? It might be a bit lacking for 800mhz.

Basically I just want to monitor fire, police etc. Everything is quite a distance from here. Fire and police usually 154.37
Michigan state police truncked in the 800 range. State Police seems to come in well.
