Default Something stealthier than Scantenna...

I searched the forum to find something that may have been able to foot the bill but haven't found much regarding outdoor antennas other than the Scantenna being discussed.

So, I'm planning on a hilltop installation of my 996T at a generous family member's house. The scanner and associated computer (used in conjunction with ProScan) will be housed inside a Pelican suitcase....it'll be a fun little project.

My heart was set on an Scantenna, but being over 8 ft. tall, it's not an option. I used to have an old radio shack discone mounted in the attic of our old house, but wasn't thrilled with its performance.

Primary monitoring is VHF Hi, UHF, and 800 Mhz. I have an Arrow Antenna and a ladder line Slim Jim, so I'm certainly not opposed to "artisan" antennas, and I don't need a brand name to keep me happy. Price range is $100 and under.

Any suggestions on an antenna that won't stand out like a sore thumb?

Thanks for any advice, and 73.

Rob

How about a Diamond D220 mini discone?

Are you restricted to using one antenna, or could you use 2 (or even 3) antennas?

I don't feel that three antennas will be an option, unfortunately.

The Diamond discone is nice looking, and short at around 3 feet, but I'm not wild about the lack of coverage under 35 Mhz. While that certainly isn't my primary monitoring band, it'd still be nice to listen in for skips every now and then on 6 meters.

Anyone have experience with the RS "sputnik?" That's not the same one I had.
