Default Help! My RS 800 MHz duck antenna receives better than my Wilson 800 MHz Yagi

Hi,

I'm having trouble receiving the new Philly P25 system. I was unable to pick up the system throughout the house using my RS 800 MHz antenna or connected to my Wilson 301111 800 MHz yagi antenna mounted in my attic. When I went up into the attic, I could receive the system with the RS antenna and after rotating the Wilson antenna, I could receive it. The problem is that while up in the attic, the RS antenna receives the system better than the Wilson. So I have a few questions. 1. Should I use a different antenna other than the Wilson (bear in mind that I don't have the vertical height for a Scantenna)? What would everyone recommend? Go back to a discone? My current listening is primarily 500 MHz and 800 MHz, with some 150-172 MHz. Also, I don't have the option of moving the antenna outdoors. I use RG6U cable terminated to F connectors and an F to BNC adapter at the scanner. The run is < 20'.

Thanks,

Rich C

MAYBE it doesn't matter for scanners, but I'd toss the coax and F connectors if you're listening primarily in the UHF region and get some LMR-600 Coax with a N connector. LMR-600 from what I heard and can research works great with UHF, and N-Type connectors are best for UHF as well.
