Default The "best" tri-band antenna for mobile scanning

Many thanks in advance for people's advice.

I'm looking for a relatively low-profile, but powerful tri-band antenna for a Uniden BCD996XT. I will probably mount it on a hood/fender gap mount on a '05 VW Touareg. Ideally, it's well less than 1 meter in total height.

Does anyone have any recommendations, and their personal experience with them? (bonus for experience in mountainous terrain).

Does any one know the supplier/model of a hood gap antenna mount that fits a Touareg?

Thanks.

The Larsen NMO150.450/800 works very well and it is only about 16 inches long.

I took a Larsen Tribander, ditched the original basemount and fabbed the element to the base of an old Antenna Specialists cellphone glassmount antenna. It does well with everything but vhf lo is pretty weak. With your hood gap hard ground you will be amazed.
Ham Radio Outlet sells the "RVM" which is an "RV mount" that would go good in there and even has a laydown ball with thumb knob (which you can use to adjust vertical if the mount has you at an angle) and come with coax and connector all for $24.
EDIT-post above beat me to it-same antenna.

I agree, go with the Larsen NMO150/450/800 $29.95. Here is a fender mount that would look real good with that black antenna Tram Fender Bracket Mount w/ Cable & BNC $24.95

I, too, own the Larsen NMO150/450/800 and have it permanently mounted to the roof of my van. It works very well.

Yup, the Larsen brand makes good sturdy products and the Larsen tri-band is one of them.
