Hello! I have several old MON-Series mobile antennas (MONR33, MON-52 and MON-53). The instruction manuals that comes with them all show a #K-722 base coil. There are no specs for this coil, and there are no markings on any of the coils I have (except for the Antenna Specialists logo), but The Antenna Farm carries them, and their site shows them as:

“406-470MHz replacement coil for ASP7650 MOSAIC series antennas”

Under “MHz” it shows “406-470MHz”

I ALSO have an old A/S MON-58, which is basically the MON-52 whip with a base kit. HOWEVER, the instruction manual with the MON-58 shows a #K-222 coil, and the manual says “Marked 406-494MHz”, and the actual coil does have “406-494MHz” embossed in the top section of the plastic housing.

The upper whips for the MON-52 and the MON-58 are BOTH listed as #19-4645-1 in their respective manuals.

The MON-52 and the MON-58 are both rated for 25-1000MHz.

Now, here is my question:

If both antennas are rated for 25-1000MHz, and both antennas have the same exact main whip, then why would they have different base coils?????

does the black housing look like the standard k-722 ? or is the surface smooth ? i might be wrong, but i think the K-222 is an older model, and the K-722 is an updated model.

The K222 I have has a metallic label around its upper perimeter, none on the K722.
The K222 is definitely smoother than the K722.

I still don't understand why they have different specs...

Maybe the specs in the actual A/S manual are accurate, and the specs on the Antenna Farm website are bogus (since he doesn't show a source for the data)?

i'd go with the info from the A/S manual. what your describing sounds like the K-222 is an older model, and the K-722 is an update, i have one like the K-222 smooth surface and chrome strip you described. when you look inside the the bottom of the K-222 does it look like fiberglass, kinda white or lite yellow,or metal "like brass" ?

i have several base part numbers, and K-222 doesn't match any "strange"

I'll check out the undersides of both bases tomorrow. Thanks for sticking with me on this!

The bottom line is, only the K-222 coil has data supported by A/S as seen in the MON-58 manual, where it says 406-494MHz. There is no A/S bandwidth data for the K-722, at least none that I can find. I'd love to know what the specs are...

I guess I can try swapping them out on one of my MON-52 whips and see which one gives me better coverage.

glad to help. i have some old paper work, with specs and model numbers, this info came from A/S Antenna Specialists Allen Group:

K-722 406mhz-470mhz
KT-722 470mhz-512mhz
K-725 138mhz-174mhz
KH-725 210mhz-230mhz

I'd like to have the KT-722, and the K-725.

Wow, thanks much! OK, I see that the bandwidth of the K-722 does indeed match what’s on The Antenna Farm’s website, so that’s good. Now I wonder why they use a different coil on the MON-58 than they do on the MON-52? Seems to me that they should be the same, since they both use the same main whip and the coverage is (was) advertised as being 25-1000MHz…I guess we’ll never know since A/S is long gone.
