Default Looking for an antenna for 1090 Mhz

Have a Discone antenna that says it covers up to the 1200 Mhz band but when hooked up it doesn't seem to pick up any signal. I am running a SBS type receiver for aircraft.

Any suggestions out there? The receiver has a small magnetic antenna, but my setup is in the basement and I need to put the antenna outside. The original plan was to use the discone but it doesn't seem to work so now working on plan "B'. Found a few antennas but nothing Canadian or US.

TIA

Steve

At 1090 MHz, you're talking HUGE losses in any significant length of Coax. I wouldn't try more than 50 feet of good coax at that frequency, considering the signals aren't that strong in the first place. RG8 at minimum, and probably a better grade of it, say, Belden 9913.

At that freq. I'd go RG6 or better yet 1/2 inch hardline !

If you can make the majority of the run hardline, and use LMR400 for the flexible ends (antenna end and inside run), that would help.
