never thought this would work but it actually seems to be quite allright :

I took two antennas both Larsen "No Groundplane Needed"

One VHF (OM 150) One UHF (OM 450)

mounted them on a stand have made of aluminum that my scanner sits on ( shelved of course)

Ran them through a Maxon Dual Band Coupler and runs from there to a GRE 3001 and then to the scanner.

Any thoughts on this - pretty impressive to be what it is. I mean 2 - 3 counties compared to local stuff !!!!!!!

and also picks up the Motorola (800) , LTR system - Both VHF/UHF like a charm.

Only did this for the "heck of it" must say I'm quite surprised at the results :)

ahh, classic old GRE super amp

Nice setup! (and yes, this'll work with any duplexer)

wideband RX nerds can get one of the duplexers meant for the kitchen-sink mobiles, splits a single line to HF and VHF/UHF....shortwave antenna on HF port, discone or something on the other one, single feed to the radio.

so how much does those couplers cost? They look nice to have on hand for various setups. I've only seen the ham radio ones that are narrowbanded just for the ham freqs.
