Anyone think it would be a good idea to mount a trunk lip scanner antenna on the hood of car on the left side? Anyone hav their antenna mounted like this?

I've seen some people mount them that way. I don't think it's the best location, the center of the roof is always the best, but that location will do.
When you say the center of the roof, do you mean on the back of the trunk lid (in front of the rear light in window)?

No; the center of the roof means the center of the roof, not the trunk lid. The trunk lid of the vehicle isn't the roof! Of course, a trunk lip mount will work on the trunk, either in the middle or off to the left or right side, but you would need a roof mount (i.e., drill a hole) to install the antenna in the middle of the vehicle roof.
