Question RADAR phenomenon

I was watching some severe thunderstorms over New York State this afternoon with GRLevel2Analyst and saw an interesting and short-lived echo.

Note the white feature that appears in the second image of this sequence. This feature appeared during one sweep and then was gone again. During the time that this feature was visible, radar was indicating 6-inch hail underneath it.

Is this a reflection from a hail shaft?

Depends on your color table... It was not a "reflection" of hail - it likely is the high reflectivities from the hail core if it existed.

Sure it indicated 6"? I think 4 or 5 is the max. In any case - it was wrong

I'm using the default color table for Base Reflectivity.

The popup box for the hail icon on GRLevel2Analyst said, "Hail Size 6.7 in."
