DX Atlas is a great programme, John, I could sit and play for hours!

Interesting to put my home QTH in and then switch to Azimuthal projection - Spain and Portugal are all around the outside rim!

15060 KHz Undercover Radio (pirate) on right now at 1556 UTC trying to reach Europe. Good signal, S8 but deep fades.

15120 KHz Voice of Nigeria right now at 1943 UTC broadcasting in DRM with a near perfect decode, but sadly terrible audio quality (not the fault of DRM). Why broadcast in DRM if you're going to use telephone grade audio (it actually sounds worse)? Seems like a big waste of bandwidth. When I saw the signal I was hoping for some nice local music with nice vibrant audio :-(

Hey, so I'm new to SWLing and this forum. I just picked up the Grundig 450DLX at Radio Shack last night to try out this whole shortwave thing. At first I couldn't pick up anything but static, but after a while I began to hear a whole bunch of stuff on the airwaves.

Coolest thing I received was the English broadcast of Radio Havana Cuba at 6000 kHz, from about 0200-0300 UTC. I'm a Marxist-Leninist, so that was pretty enjoyable. Just wish I could get Voice of Korea, too, but all I got was static. Guess that one is too distant to hear.

Radio Croatia 7375kHz 0330z S5 on my realigned Kenwood R2000 - going well!

Voice of Greece romping in on 7475kHz 0400z S9+ on the R2000, loud and clear on the 1953 Pye PE80 and listening out on the verandah on the Sony CRF 230 to some cool jazz with a cool brown sparkling health drink.

Default North Korea on 2 MHz

Well, this is a new one for me: Presumed North Korea currently coming in well on 2850 KHz at 1230 UTC with dramatic instrumental music. Whenever I check this frequency in the morning, it's usually just a weak carrier. Unfortunately t-storm crashes are ruining the DX this morning :-(

Kind of a double logging here.

Was tuning around and heard what sounded like a Cuban on 600khz over WMT Cedar Rapids, IA. Thinking it might be Radio Rebelde, Havana, Cuba ... I swung up to 5,025khz to see if the programming was the same (Cuban techno at the time). Yup, sure enough ... *BUT* ...

Rebelde on 5,025khz has a HORRIBLE heterodyne on their signal, seems to be 580hz, so the offending carrier is on 5025.58khz. The het fades in and out, so I don't think it's from the same transmitter. Who the heck else would put out such a loud signal on this band? I mean S9 +30 to 40db up here.

Check 'em out.

Here we go again with Rebelde on 5025khz. I always flip between them on that frequency and what I'm hearing on the AM BC band to help ident the medium wave outlets, and tonight there is a HUGE RTTY signal on 5025khz. WHo the heck is that and why? Certainly the receiving end isn't in the eastern USA because Rebelde's signal is 40/9! Military I suppose, or jamming? Weird.

I saw on FB that there were 19 different pirates logged last night just below the 40 meter ham band. Crazy.
