It seems like these days shortwave isn't worth much because you can get any information from the Internet. A few days ago I tuned into Radio New Zealand and heard some rather excited announcers. There had been an earthquake in Wellington just three hours ago and they were talking about what they were doing to get the city functioning again. They talked about recent earthquakes and nervously joked about how much fun it is to live in a city that's right on a fault line.

This was much more fun than reading a couple of paragraphs about 6.9 Richter scale earthquake on the Internet. No one at work even knew about it.

We had a big jolt followed by a long rumble on Sunday 21st that went on for a good 30seconds but haven't felt anything since then. There have been some aftershocks felt in Wellington - the epicentre is out in the Cook Strait and has been in almost constant activity since then. I live about 80miles northeast of Wellington and the epicentre is about 20miles further along the same line.
