It seems like these days shortwave isn't worth much because you can get any information from the Internet. A few days ago I tuned into Radio New Zealand and heard some rather excited announcers. There had been an earthquake in Wellington just three hours ago and they were talking about what they were doing to get the city functioning again. They talked about recent earthquakes and nervously joked about how much fun it is to live in a city that's right on a fault line.
This was much more fun than reading a couple of paragraphs about 6.9 Richter scale earthquake on the Internet. No one at work even knew about it.
