• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I bought a Motorola HT750 Radio for the fire dept. I'm with, and I called and asked a company how much they charge for programming and its $50.00 a radio.

Well I was wondering if a Cloning Cable programs the freqs. from one radio to another, and how it works.

My dept. uses HT750 and so do I, but their radios are 16 channel, and mine is 4.

I was just wondering if anybody knows a way I can just program my radio a cheap way.

Here is the cable I was going to buy.

Thanks.

Cloning from 16 channel to 4 channel is likely not to work. You can sometimes get someone on eBay to program your radio if you are willing to part with it for a bit.

You also need to be careful to make sure the programming allows for cloning... some delears/techs will disable that, and put a password on codeplugs so you have to go through them to do it.

Really, the only other cheaper way to do it is to take it to the shop. I know you may not want to pay $50 for it, but unless you find a friend or someone who owns the equipment (Cable, Computer, and Software) in your area, that is really the best option. I know it seems like a lot, but really if you program it once, you should be okay. Programming is something that should always be considered when you purchase a radio.

This might be obvious to some of us, but did you check to see if your department or another one could program it for free?

Did you happen to check to see if you were even allowed to use a personal radio?

We are a small department, we don't have the software, and yes we are allowed to have personal radios, cheif said we can, and most of the department has their own.

Then who programs the radios? What if you needed to change something?

Just changing a few radios at $50 each would pay for the software and hardware that would get you 3 years of updates. That is of course if there is not someone at a higher level (say a county person) who does the radio work so it is a consistent manner.
