Why does Clay Twp. 2012 Population: 9,066 need their own police dispatch TG? In my experience most small municipalities weather it be a city, township, village... whatever are just dispatched by sheriff, if NOT patrolled by sheriff. Just curious! Thank you! :)

Sean, about 10 years ago, clay twp, and algonac both went into the 800 mhz system, they call for back-up from chesterfield, new baltimore and marine city. and when the 800 system was set-up all police departments were required to have a separate tg . about 30% of clay calls come from central dispatch in port huron, twp . only 15% are relayed via 50 mac law. the balance comes thru there dispatch including fire tone outs

Clay didn't want any part becuase the Sheriff and Central Dispatch never played well with them. They always have had to call MSP for anything they needed since the Sheriff just for whatever reason didnt want to assist them for anything. On top of that the fee's for Central Dispatch aren't based on calls its you pay this and you get this regardless of how much or little it's used. Which it should be based on calls etc. They have a good set up in Clay and I dont see it changing anytime soon.
