I live in rural Morgan County and got my first scanner 40 years ago when 8 crystal controlled channels and the AL DPS codes were all that was needed to be able to be informed if I woke to sirens and lights in my neighborhood.

When I realized how bad some elements in my area had become with home invasions and such I decided it was time to begin "riding the scanner" again and I purchase a new one but found that the law enforcement in my area has changed their codes some.

Since getting my new scanner I have been able to update my list by listening and speaking to deputies I know . When I asked how to get an up to date list a couple deputies told me that each department now customizes their codes and up to date list are not really pubically availabe anymore.

Over the last couple years of listening to the scanner traffic in my area I have figured out about 90 percent of the new codes but 10-35 , 10-47 ,10-62 , 10-65 , 10-76 , 10-85, 10-91 and 10-93 for MCSO/Falkville Police and Somerville I have not heard in use enough to figure out.

Any help from others here in Morgan County would be appreciated and if anybody has holes in their Mo Co 10 Codes that I may be able to help with let me know.

Thanks

I might be able to help you here. I am not 100% certain on these but I believe at least some I have are right. When you hear them on dispatch just insert and see what makes sense.

10-35 Usually means cutting or stabbing but some AL LEO use it as "major crime" or "major crime alert"

10-47 is almost always "request photographer at___" Also seen it as "Emergency Road Repair"

10-62 varies a lot, try "attempt to locate," or "officer reply to text/page message"

10-65 is almost used by every N AL LEO as "meet/come to location of officer," I know troopers in MO CO use it as "radio log"

10-76 is another that varies greatly. Try "indecent exposure," or "investigator/detective/supervisor needed at.."

10-85 This one is not even used by a decent amount. Try "switch to channel__," "Public Contact," or "Delayed Response (such as referring to late impound wrecker etc)"

10-91 Is pretty much never used at all. I know of only one dept. that uses it and its AST and it is "unauthorized transmission"

Good luck trying to match, it will take some time to do process of elimination.

Thanks.

I added them as possibilities to my list and will wait to hear them in use and see if they fit in context.

What gets me is the 10 codes were intended to standardize inter department communication yet there are 6 LE agencies in a 20 mile radius of me and five different code systems. I feel sorry for the central dispatch folks that handle traffic for five of the departments and use 3 different code sets.

Slowly but surely I am getting to hear some of the possible code meanings y'all have offered and the holes are starting to fill as the traffic proves context.

I think instead of multiple hard copies of code for my area I will build one list of code with different colored translation colums for the various agencies in my area.
