There are only a few fully staffed 200-series engines left in the county, off the top of my head 216 (E9), 236 and 282. I may have missed one, but there used to be so many more that have been moved to new stations or to staff new units like E265 which became E89 and or like E241 which became Squad 41.

The fully staffed 2-cars are simply a second engine out of a station. Station 36 for example has 2 engines, and a squad. The 2-car is usually the move-up engine, and has either a 3 or 4 man crew. E216 is unique, as it has been re-numbered Engine 9 while still stationed at FS16, and has a specific response district separate of E16.

269 and 279, are CFF (Call Firefighter) staffed as needed, usually on a call-back when the regular engine is on an extended run, or when extra staffing is needed.

The 200 series engine can be used in 2 ways. The first way is a fully staffed engine with 3-4 firefighters. This engine is the second out of a station. Example would be station 36. You have engine 36 and the second engine is engine 236. If the station is numbered over 100 then the second engine the 300 series. Station number + 200.

The second way is if it is used as part of a light force. A light force is an engine and a truck that are joined at the hip. They do not separate. Since the truck does not have a pump to pump water, the 200 series engine is used with the truck. This is used to increase firefighters and equipment for fires. For an example, station 8. You have engine 8 which is a stand alone engine. Then you have engine 208 and truck 8 to form a light force. I am not sure on the staffing but I believe it is 3-4 firefighters on the truck and 1-2 firefighters on the engine.

And then there is Engine 155 which is a paid call rig located at the Isthmus on Catalina Island under the direction of Captain 55 in Avalon.

Here's the rundown I got from a LACoFD buddy of mine:

Current Fully Staffed 200-series engines

236
244
264
329 (Attached to Haz-Mat 129)

Current Light Force 200-series engines

208
282

Current Call Firefighter 200-series engines

269
271 (Housed on private property in Corral Canyon, not at FS71)
279
317

Fomer 200-series engines

216 (Became Engine 9, housed at FS16, but with unique response district)
241 (Became Engine 41. Engine 41 [paramedic engine] became Squad 41)
265 (Became Engine 89)
273 (Became Quint 126)
307 (Became Quint 104)
325 (Became Truck 125)

And, it's likely that 244 and 264 will be converted to quint 44 and quint 64 in the near future as well.

I just remembered E250 but I don't know if it was continuously staffed or only staffed on occasion.

I think E250 was the former E89 after the Bandini Bl station closed. I think the E250 funding was used to create SQ 50.

A couple of you calling an engine a car is pretty confusing. I'm not sure where that terminology originated from. Is it something used by large metro fire departments?

I believe the term was started within the LACoFD and is more of a slang term then anything else. I have never heard it used by any other depts but there are very few depts that have a fully staffed second engine out of one station. I don't recall it even being used by LAFD but I could be wrong. Sometimes, the firefighters in my dept. refer to the type III engine as "the weed wagon". I think it is the same thing.

I do remember the old FS89. I started listening just before they closed. Didn't hear E89 for a long time then started wondering if I was just imaginning it.

E314 (Current Lake L.A.CFF).

Too funny..."Two" cars. A lot of depts call their rigs "cars". FDNY probably was first with that. Their engineers are still called chauffers or "shofes" for short. Here's my list;

E208 (stand alone engine til the creation of the Light Force in early 90's)
E209 (became E236 when Huntington Park came to the County)
E214 (Old E54 til new station built on 108th in early 70's. Became E170 when Inglewood came over.)
E216 (was E9 til 1994. 2+1+6= 9 ! Renumbered back to E9 in 2009 in honor of Jimmy Howe)
E225 (Became E325. See below)
E227 (disbanded when E89 shut down. Funding became S27)
E233 (Call engine moved to 117 and became E317)
E236 ("Two" car out of 36's. Funded by City of Carson. Was E209, see above)
E241 (Was E252 til 52's closed down. Funding became E148)
(There was no E243. City of Industry built and paid for station on Azusa/Gale and funded E118)
E244 (Original district rig for Duarte. Became "Two" car when F&FW and District consolidated)
E245 (Became E122)
E250 (Was E89)
E252 (Became E241. See above)
E254 (Was E52. Moved to 54's when 52's closed)
E255 (Call engine on Catalina)
E260 (Old "Cornbinder" housed at former FS060. Retired long ago.)
E263 (Was E160 from Maywood. Became E363. Disbanded and funding became S163 late 70's)
E264 (Original district rig for San Dimas. Became "Two" car when F&FW and District consolidated)
E265 (Original district rig for Agoura. Became E65 when E65 moved to 89's to become E89)
E269 (Call engine in Topanga)
E270 ("Two car at 70's. Seasonal engine at FS099 til fully became E99)
E271 (Call engine in Corral Canyon)
E273 (Became E126)
E279 (Was E93 call engine)
E282 (Was district rig for La Canada. Became "Two" car when F&FW and district consolidated. Became
part of "Light Force 82 in early to mid 90's
E307 (Became Q104)
E317 (Was E233. Call engine out of FS117)
E325 (Became Q125)
E329 (Haz Mat engine for Haz Mat 129)
E373 (Old FWD brush rig out of FS073 retired long ago)
E382 (Old FWD brush rig out of FS082 retired long ago)

I think that's about it. Lemme know

Same here, First time I heard someone at FS64 announce "2 car out" on the PA I had to ask WTH is a 2 car?
