• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Take out the 2 duplicate frequencies and I still see only 5. But in Canada, this is true of these 5 frequencies that are still business and not MURS. Might change next year but have to wait for businesses to migrate to other frequencies. Same happened when FRS/GMRS came in. Costs taxpayers money to allow and help businesses migrate to other frequencies.

the sales sheet shows the murs version is capable of storing 8 frequencies but comes with 5 for murs. i guess the other 3 are pointless since murs is license free?

The FCC will not certify a radio for MURS if it is capable of operation on other frequencies.

§ 95.655 Frequency capability.
(d) No transmitter will be certificated for use in MURS if it is equipped with a frequency capability not listed in § 95.632.

§ 95.632 MURS transmitter frequencies.
(a) The MURS transmitter channel frequencies are 151.820 MHz, 151.880 MHz, 151.940 MHz, 154.570 MHz, 154.600 MHz.

With a m***n like that running an LMR manufacturer I guess we all know who to stay away from. You' d think a person in his position would get his facts straight before going on camera and making a fool of himself.

Actually if the correct software is used, the cps110 can be programmed for other frequencies within its set range but it really wouldn't be worth it.
non of the big box stores around here use them that I've seen.

The website says after you buy the radio you have to buy the programming cable and download the MURS specific software. The software will not let you change the frequencies.

Speculation is the 154.xxx channels are programmed both as wide and narrow as the reason for the duplication.

The land of broken calculators.
Don't forget all the additional channels you get when you change the "privacy codes"

It's good they have so many privacy codes considering they have "70 mile range!"

I've seen some manuals for LMR units in recent years that explain in plain terms how PL and DPL equipped frequencies do NOT provide privacy in the sense of keeping comms from being heard by others. Nice that some of them finally got around to making this clear for the benefit of the non-techies who don't know any better.

You would think the president of a company that manufactures two-way radios would be somewhat familiar with the FCC rules. Well, anything to make a buck I guess.

You would think that Urgent Communications would of posted a correction on their website, but then again, maybe not.

Either way the guy was totally off on his facts stating that it is only for business.
