• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Decided to put a scanner in my car. I think I'm going to use a ProClip. They sure are expensive but it seems like the way to go.

Do you think this would work for a BCD396xt? It looks like the "sliver" button on the scanner would slide right in that groove.

Universal Holder (Stick-on button and V-slot plate) - ProClip USA

My other options seems to be a universal. The scanner dimensions are 2 W x 6 H x 1 D (from the uniden website)

Small Universal Adjustable ProClip Holder T2 - ProClip USA

It looks like there would be enough room above where the mount squeezes for the power cord.

Only other thought is a mount that would allow the belt clip of the scanner to go on. I'm not sure if it will move around though.

Any thoughts?

I'm a little short on time (want to have this installed for a trip next week) so I ordered the Mid Size universal. It might be a tad bit wide for the BCD396 but I figure I can make it fit with some padding.

Since the scanner won't be in there full time, the mount is sized to hold my Galaxy S4.

Hopefully photos to follow in the install section.

Sorry I'm just seeing this now Rob. I've been using a ProClip solution to hold my 396XT and TomTom GPS side-by-side for almost two years now and it works great. Was very simple to install.

I'm using a vehicle specific dash mount, a horizontal extension plate, a GPS specific mount for it and the "Button and Belt Clip Holder (Small)" (part 215052) for my 396XT. Like you suggested the silver button on the scanner slides right into the groove and stays put even when off the pavement.

It cost me $104 but was money well spent!

Thanks for the reply. Perhaps "phase 2" of this project will be the horizontal extension and the Button Belt Clip holder. Then I can have my cell and the scanner mounted.

Any idea how fast they ship? I ordered on Wednesday but I haven't seen any other emails with a tracking number. Hopefully it's on the way! Would like to install on Wednesday before my 1000 mile adventure.
