Drivers for Uniden USB cable

Just bought a new HP notebook with Windows 8 and now I cant connect my BC346XT nor my BCD396XT. I downloaded drivers from scannermaster.com's product page but they still wont connect. Can anyone help?

If you have a cable made before May, 2013, it will not work with Windows 8. Prolific changed their chipset version and only issued W8 drivers for their latest chipset. You can check the chipset version using the tool provided with the W8 drivers. D/L the drivers from prolific.com.tw (sorry, cannot provide a direct link, as you need to login to their site to get to the d/l area).

thanks. tried prolific.com but membership is closed. where can i buy a cable with the new chipset?

Driver worked for me

I had the same problem with my USB-1 cable and my Windows 8 machine. I found that Prolific PL2303 driver version 3.32.122 works perfectly.

After having none of the "workarounds" work with the USB-1 cable and Windows 8, I have had good luck with the Micro Connectors, Inc. USB Serial Adapter (purchased from Frys) E07-160 in the thread below...

Looks Like Fry's , K-Mart , Sears , And Walmart all have this Adapter this i found doing a Google search of the Adapter.

i extracted the file from deep in my c: drive and let my pc find an active updated version. took a few hours. but i'm able to connect again.

The latest drivers are on Prolific's site. Unfortunately, they require a login (guest/guest), so I cannot directly link to the file. But, their site is at Prolific Technology Inc.

This workaround has work well for me (and others) on two different Win 8 PC's ... Make sure not to let Windows 8 do the Windows "auto-update" to the prolific driver ...
