To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Good evening,
I have located the Service Manual for the Motorola ZR310 Community Repeater Panel. However, as I scrolled through all the pages, I noticed that page "Section 6-11" is missing!! This may be very important because on Section 6-10 under the Paragraph "Station ID Call Sign" the last sentence states, "Refer to Table 6-4 for Station ID cross reference & Table 6-5 for the TPL Tone/DPL Code conversions."
The problem is, there are NO Tables 6-4 & 6-5 in the entire manual because they may be on the Section 6-11 page that's missing!!!
Specifically, I am looking for the directions on how to program a CW station ID via DTMF keypad. How do I switch between letters and numbers for my call sign?
Thanks for any help.

I have had the real manual, and that page or pages are always missing.
Here should be the trick. ( but you will have to try it to be sure )
Enter the programming with your usual "unlock" code.
Seems to me the ID program string is 160 # uu # ( the uu is your user number you want to program an ID for)
then enter up to eight characters by putting in the two digits corresponding to that letter or number.
Figure the letters and numbers ahead of time:
Letter is the letters on an OLD phone keypad.
N for example is the second "digit" on button 6.
Should be 26 to program the letter N.
Numbers are preceded by 0 (thats a zero)
So, WN7R would be 19 26 07 27 #
The exceptions are Q (10 ) and Z (20)
I am pretty sure this works, but its been a LONG time.
Try it and then use the play back code which I think is 161# uu#
Those should be in the cheat sheet in the back of the book Appendix A.

Thank you for the quick reply, I appreciate it.
I am a bit confused though. You say to program the W is 19; N is 26; and R is 27. I understand there has to be two digits used for both the letters & numbers.
So, why is the number 1 used for the W? Is it because the W is the 1st letter under the number 9?
Why is the 2 used to program the N; Is it because the N is the 2nd letter under the number 6?
Why is the 2 used to program the R? If my "logic" is correct (Hahaha!!) then should the letter R be 37 since the R is the 3rd letter under the number 7?
Unfortunately, there is no cheat sheet--that's what I'm lacking!!!!
Trying to program in my call sign of W2RRK. So would that be 19 02 37 37 25 # ???

Hello again petnrdx,
OK, I found programming directions for the ZR320 Community Repeater and it shows the DTMF Keypad and how to program letters. The letter "Q" is not on the #7 and the letter "Z" is not on the #9 so that would now make sense what you said about the letter "R" being "27" since the "R" is the second letter under the #7 and not the third as I assumed. I was looking at my cell phone keypad which obviously has the Q and Z letters. I think I answered my own question now. Thank you again.

Yeah, the Z320 book has that page somewhere in the text.
I have an old POTS phone on the desk, so looked at the trusty old phone pad.
Hopefully you have had a chance to try this and it works.
Otherwise, more digging...

Q and Z - Zetron ZR310

If numbers are followed by zero then Q can't be 10 as 10 would equal 1 and 20 would equal 2 not Z. My call sign has a Q in it and can't figure out how to add a Q or the number 2. My call sign is WQ**2**. Can anyone help me program the 310 with DTMF Keypad.

There ain't no 10...
Numbers are LEAD by zero, not followed.Different than the number scheme.
So one is 01, seven is 07.
Ten would be a one (01) followed by a zero (00).
So, I still think that 10 is Q and 20 is Z.
What happens when you try it?

Meant different than the letter scheme.
These things were convoluted to program.
You are not the first nor will you be the last to struggle with it.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I have the printed version of the Service Manuals and there are gross Typos with incomplete explanation. I find where others have had issues and just hoped that someone was familiar with the DPL assignment sections.

Scenario is I want to use DPL for users 51-70. I have activated the user position and assigned the DPL and it does not work. Even inverted the codes just in case with negative results.

Will figure it out but don't want to do a reset until I can put my hands on the box. Its currently at 4,000 feet and and hours drive away :)

Thanks again. If you wanna give it a whirl from Asheboro its GMRS 462.550 +5 141.3 PL
