• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello- I installed a VX-6000 VHF for our local schools for their bus base station operations, and I can't find a way to adjust the transmit power, other then "high/ low"
The spec sheet says 110w adjustable to 5w.

I was under the assumption there would be different steps, i.e. 50, 25, 10, 5..... not just 110w & 5w. That's a huge difference. Motorola, you can pop in any wattage you want so long as you don't exceed the set limits. I've looked all over how to change the wattage, but I don't see anything to change steps other then High/ Low. Anyone have any ideas? We're licensed for 45w output & 15 ERP (I didn't do the licensing, it doesn't look right to me but I think I know why it's like that) So I don't want to TX at 110 and kick out a nearby station (hence the low ERP in the license) .. plus the power supply would be at its operation (but not peak) limit. I rather keep equipment cool and run lower power.

Thanks for any help
Jeremy

Been there, done that.

The standard CE49 software only lets you select TX power from High and Low. Defaults are 110 and 50 watts.

To change or define Tx power you need a special FIF-8 programmer (different from the normal adapter) connected to the RF deck DB-25. THEN you need SVC49 alignment software to define power output at High and Low.

While you are at it, check the actual narrow modulation. Nearly all of the VX6000's I've worked on will put normal voice well over 2KHz deviation. Excited firefighters run over 3KHz and become unintelligible. It's all trial and error, and requires a good service monitor. Still, a right decent radio once you get it adjusted.
