BC796D: program cable

ok i was given a bc796d scanner. i would like to program it with a software program. what program is best to use. also it uses a rs232c cable and those things are a thing of the past. is there a rs232c to usb i can use?

Depending upon your computer's operating system, you have a couple of options. Proscan works on Windows 8.x. Butel's ARC 250 will work on operating systems before 8.x.

Here's the cabling set-up I use:

1. Plugable USB to RS-232 DB9 Serial Adapter

2. Null Modem Adapter (from Radio Shack)
3. Gender Adapter (from Radio Shack)
4. 6 foot Serial Cable (had it for years and don't remember where I got it, but I'm sure Radio Shack would have them).
