• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

So what do I need to monitor commercial TRBO with my Motorola?

I am using DSD+ and can monitor some local frequencies just fine. I entered the same information into the portable, color code and slot, and can see the RSSI activity bars come up but no audio. I'm assuming I need some sort of contact ID in a list. Is there an equivalent of digital carrier squelch or some sort of monitor all configuration I'm missing?

I think you'd be missing talkgroup information. I don't have a DMR radio, but somehow I think you need to add individual talkgroups and scan them. I don't believe there is a 'wildcard' type of thing that you can put into your commercial radio in order to monitor all unencrypted talkgroups.

You need to use DMR decode to get the following information:

1. Timeslot
2. Color Code
3. Group ID

You would need to setup the following:

1. Group Call (Digital Contact)
2. Digital RX Group List
3. Digital personality with correct color code and timeslot and frequency
4. Attach 1 and 2 to each other by adding 1 to 2
5. Attach the contact to the TX portion and the receive list the the RX portion of the channel (set it as RX only if your not authorized to transmit)

now... it get much more complicated if they are running in capacity plus mode.. because the timeslot will change.. in that case go to a professional I have no desire to explain it here.

Finally getting around to trying some commercial DMR monitoring. I'm a bit stumped with DMR Decode. I downloaded it and I have folders named com, META-INF, test and a readme. Where / how do run the actual program?

Something went wrong with the download - DMRDecode is an executable JAR file. Make sure you have latest Java loaded on your PC.

That's one reason I set WinRAR to NOT open JAR files - I might mistake it for an archive!
