Looks like the P25 upgrade to the CWIRS has commenced.

I noted the first site is on the air.

852.9375c
853.7750a

Site ID:4302 (T2B02)
WACN: 91FE5
System: 105
NAC: 00A

Interesting to note the frequencies being utilized are rebanded ones. I believe this is the first system locally that has adopted the new band plan following US-Mexico spectrum agreement in 2012.

The first license for rebanded frequencies I have discovered is:

WQTN373
851.0625
851.3000
851.5875
851.7250
852.0625
852.2750
852.8000
852.9375
853.2500
853.7750

We have built the new system in the Db already;

are they rolling out new radios to the users? The only radios I've seen are the older Ericsson portables which don't look like they are dual-mode capable.......

According to the settlement agreement with Sprint which is covering the cost of the CWIRS upgrades, 6,247 new Harris P25 radios would be furnished. Also some 1,494 existing county radios would be upgraded to make them compatible with the new system.

For reference per the contract proposal the new P25 CWIRS would be split into 4 simulcast zones.

Basin - 10 channels - sites Verdugo, Lukens, Oat, Baldwin Hills, Downtown Criminal Courts Bldg.
West - 8 channels - Castro, and Rolling Hills
East - 8 channels - Johnstone, Puente Hills, San Dimas, Rio Hondo
Northwest - 5 channels - Tejon, Burnt Peak, Bald Mountain

In addition there would be 5 standalone sites
Catalina - 5 channels - Blackjack
Hauser - 6 channels - Hauser Peak
Antelope 1 - 5 channels - Blue Rock
Antelope 2 - 5 channels - Lower Blue Rock
Castaic - 5 channel - Whitaker Middle Peak

That is curious, I would think that Hauser would cover the AV enough that there wouldn't be a need for an antelope 1/2....Not sure where "Blue Rock" is....have heard of Blue Ridge .....

Looking at LA County map it shows Blue Rock location either on or adjacent to Saddleback Butte State Park in Lancaster, while Blue Ridge is up next to Mountain High Resort.

A couple years ago LA County started placing repeaters on the south side of Saddleback Butte State Park (175th St East and Ave I) due to the Lovejoy Buttes blocking the signal path from Hauser Peak to Lake Los Angeles. Its been a problem for decades, Id really like to know why it wasn't done sooner.

Ah - that would explain why I'm not hearing anything in Santa Clarita, yet 8*)

I've heard that some of the LA County folks consider Rolling Hills as an outstanding transmit site all the way up into the AV. I know they overestimate things but that's the way they roll.

Well not really, I live below the bank of antennas, ocean side of PV, I cannot get blue 6 and hardly blue 1. I can get blue 3 and 12 really nice. I am using a discone. south bay cites is loud and clear and lifeguards are line of site, but they are low power. I am not getting anything from Catalina as that should be loud and clear due to un-obstruction view. But I am in a Blue 1 area and its only clear when they go direct close to me, forget the UHF and VHF tach channels, unless they are in the neighborhood. During the recent drowning's at the cliffs, it was hard to keep up on things with blue one,

Received submission that voice testing was noted on TG 64001.

Anyone so far pick up activity on any of the other sites or licences?

Once all said and done it should be the same exact users of the EDACS system. All they are doing is an upgrade to P25.

Only slight difference I am aware of, is LA-RICS kicked in some money to support future interoperability between CWIRS, LA-RICS, and LA City STRS.
