I came across this today:

The City Council of Conyers is accepting sealed written proposals from qualified companies to design and install an 800MHz P-25 public safety radio network. If you choose to submit a written proposal for this service, your sealed proposal must be marked, "2014RFP911-Public Safety Radio Network" and delivered to the City of Conyers at 1184 Scott Street, Conyers, GA 30012 no later than 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 30, 2014.

Bid Opportunities

2014 RFP 911 - Public Safety Radio Network

Apparently they decided not to use the county's system after all.

City may team with county on 911 radios

Conyers currently uses conventional 800MHz repeaters. I am sure Motorola Solutions, who is hard up for cash, will give em a shakedown and sell them their own Astro 25 7.14 DTRS and ISSI to the county LOL.

Attention conyers people.
Attention conyers people.
Attention conyers people.

If you do not like the idea of secret police and encrypted radios and communications you cannot monitor for other reasons such as phase 2, NOW, not later, is the time to make your case to your board of bubbas. I repeat, NOW, NOT LATER, is the time to voice your opinion to your elected board of bubba representatives.

That concludes this message.
You have a nice day.

Seems like someone in Conyers should ask Conyers Chief Operating Officer David Spann his own question about why they didn't partner with the county:

"When it’s the smallest county in the state, why wouldn’t you share?” Spann said. “If I was a taxpayer, that would be the first question I asked.”

The RFP just came out, no vendor chosen and already the RR engineers/keyboard lawyers are at it.

Amazing.

Amazing.

From the RFP:

The City of Conyers Police Department utilizes the city-wide 800MHz system. Currently the City of Conyers Police Department has approximately 104 radios of which 89 are portable radios with 15 mobile radios.

The non-public safety agency for the City of Conyers is the Public Works Department which currently has approximately 25 radio users of which all are portable radios.

The area of the city is approximately 11.9 square miles.

Conyers is the county seat of the second-smallest county by area in the state. The county just spent $5 million for a 4 site P25 DTRS that went live earlier this year. Now Conyers wants to spend several million dollars for their own DTRS for 139 radios? I'd question it if I lived there.

Thank you Nunya.... and they are already pushing out that dreaded "E" word

pages 26 27 31 32 36 ALL have that awful word on them.

Rockdale has a nice system, terrain is causing a couple issues, but they are working them out quickly.

Conyers, is just one of those, " we'll spend it if we want" places.... kinda like Fayette County and Peachtree City. they just squander tax money on stupid stuff to look like the "big dog", instead of the more critical and needed stuff.

example:

Business district on Parker Road, where Rockdale Career Academy is located. not more than 5 months ago they installed a simple Warning Light for the Olde Town Walking Path where it crosses Parker Rd in front of the RCA, for pedestrians to use when they are crossing the 2 lane per side road with a 45 MPH Speed Limit. guess what... they just covered those signs up already with trash bags, built new concrete curbs in the middle of the road, installed brand new overhead pole based warning lights and this claim: No one noticed them.........

want to know why "no one noticed them" ?

NO ONE EVER PUSHED THE BUTTON TO TURN ON THE LIGHTS BEFORE THEY CROSSED THE ROAD!!!

actually i correct that, Ive seen it a couple times being used...... but that's like a 1-3% usage ratio to the number of people i see every day on that walking path.

for Rockdale County... KISS Theory is usually in place. they built that new 4 tower system, using 2 of the OLD towers already built... one is Smyrna Dr, off of Hwy 212 "South Tower" and the other is up higher near DeKalb and Gwinnett lines, "North Tower" but they had a really big "Dead Zone" to the east out towards Newton. so they simply built two more towers, "East and West" respectively. one towards that dead zone by Newton Line, and the other towards Henry.

so now, Conyers, yes the Seat of Rockdale County, feels embarrassed, they use their "Still perfectly working" 1995 System.... and has to squander non-needed equipment for useless reasons.

another example...... they bought a plethora of Dodge Chargers not long ago... i am already seeing Chevy Caprices' and Ford Taurus' replacing those hardly used Chargers!!!

The "radios" those 15 of them mobile.... those are the cars. that's all they have....LOL!!

i think im going to have to talk to the Sheriff of Rockdale, he lives in my neighborhood ( dont get me started on that either.... he did something really stupid last year for Halloween )

took 2 deputies off the roads, to personally escort his son and daughter around the neighborhood ( ours only ) for the night!!! that is ONE exception to Rockdale's KISS Theory

I have a friend who works for CPD. They do NOT have radios in the patrol cars. They all use portables. They also have more than adequate coverage on their repeater system.

then who has the 15 Mobiles? got to be a mobile mount somewhere for them to have them? right?

point is, the analog system works fine for the small 12 Sq Miles of Coverage. the issue is Conyers feels belittled that Rockdale now has them beat and the City is County Seat. just trying to be "Big Dog" Showoff to the Feds .

.

Most likely sitting on desks in dispatch, at the hospital, etc. Not necessarily installed in vehicles, and of course it could also just be on the license for "future" use.

I don't see a problem with them joining into the county's new network, but procuring their own is a redundant waste. But that seems to be in in fashion these day, North Fulton URS comes to mind.

I just finally read the RFP, and am simply amazed, AMAZED I SAID, that a department that has about 40 employees needs a system this costly. I mean, really? Save the city MILLIONS of dollars and just join the County P25 system, or even OARS!

I wonder if everyone went to the Conyers Police Depart > Home and clicked on the Anonymous Tip button are reported this waste of money to the department, if they might arrest the idiot that started this whole thing!

They must feel they need to prepare for added talkgroups and staff during an epidemiological emergency.
Either that or Motorola has resorted to bottom feeding for these small towns. It really doesn't matter if they need it or have the money. NONE of them NEED a race-to-waste trunking system. And it's probably a really easy sale since nobody cares.

you must be referring to this:

The Lost Children Of Rockdale County | FRONTLINE | PBS

Of course many talkgroups are needed to coordinate the response to such a major health crisis! and AES-256 encryption is certainly in order to protect the names of those involved from allowing everyone on Broadcastify knowing who is getting their Valtrex prescriptions filled!

Yep, I'd wager no one shows up to make one educated comment. I'd also to say the same who won't bother to send en email, make a phone call, or go to those meetings will the first to complain when their $600 Uniden scanner is a paperweight because they can't listen to the 5 cops in Conyers anymore when the new system goes live. And their taxes go up.
