• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Can anyone help me by explaining the differences between Programmer R20 and RPM? Do both versions require an activation code?

I wanted to program a 700P for P25 but it's one of the KRD models, and Programmer R18 does support P25 but only on the RU models.

So it's either buy a RU version 700P or a P7100, or try to see about getting a copy of R20, assuming it is reasonable.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Depends what you mean by P25.

P25 conventional can be programmed with ProGrammer. P25 Trunked cannot.

ProGrammer R18 was the last version that wasn't locked down with the current licensing system. R19-R20 and all versions of RPM thru R10 are licensed much more strictly.

Neither the RU version of the 700p or the first-generation V31-series P7100 can do P25 trunking, so you can stop there if that's what you are looking to do.

The V71 P7100 and everything newer P7200/7300 etc. can do P25-T if feature enabled and with the proper radio code/DSP.

Hope that answers your question.

I'd have to go back a few versions to see, but I can say that ProGrammer R20 allows P25 trunked to be programmed. I's the old 'ugly' kind though with each site needing to be in a separate system if it's a multi-site P25 system instead of the "enhanced cc" found in RPM and newer radio code.

For the OP, it's kind of hard to find P25 P7100s on eBay, but that's probably your best bet.

I'm pretty sure the 700P does not support P25 of any type. The second generation P7100's came out mid-march 2005. They will have a F series DSP, the first generation will have a G series.

Also, R18 only supports P25C. It does not support trunking, even though it would lead you to believe that.
